More Than $6,000 Donated to Local Non-Profits

We hosted representatives from local mid-Missouri non-profit agencies on Thursday, February 2, to pass out some checks through Socket's Honest to Goodness Charity Donation Program.

This fourth round of donations totaled $6,171.85 in donations for 73 charitable organizations, bringing the total for the past two years to more than $18,000.

Through the program, customers of Socket's Home Phone + Internet bundles in Columbia and Jefferson City can designate a local charity to receive 5% of their bill for their first year of service. Donations are distributed twice per year.

We're so excited to see what these non-profit organizations can do for our community with these funds. Thanks to our customers for joining with us to give back to the community through this program!

To learn more about the Honest to Goodness Program, including a list of top-earning charities for this round of donations, please visit www.socket.net/homephone/charities.

Meet us in Moberly

Moberly, we are coming to see you at the 2012 Moberly Lifestyle Fair!

There’ll be lots of vendors on hand with demos, food, products to buy and more. Admission is just two cans of food or a donation to the Christos Center.

We’ll be on hand to answer your technology questions and hand the kiddos a free purple balloon (they’re always a big hit). We can also tell you all about our high-speed Internet and dial-up and the great specials we’re offering during January.

Or just enter our raffle for a yummy tower of meat and cheese from Burgers’ Smokehouse.
(Some vendors give away food; we just make you look at pictures of it and drool.)

So stop by anytime Friday from 4:00-8:00 p.m or Saturday from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at the Moberly Area Community College Activity Center at 101 College Ave.

Hope to see you there!

450+ smiles...just in time for the holidays

Remember how awesome it was to get new toys for the holidays when you were a kid?Socket donation to Toys for Tots

The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program makes that joy and excitement possible for even more families, delivering toys to needy children throughout the holiday season.

It's a great program. So instead of sending our clients yet another tin of holiday popcorn, we   bought toys for needy children in their names.

In all, more than 450 toys were donated to the program, including puzzles, board games, dolls, cars and more.

Program volunteers worked with local social welfare agencies, church groups and other community agencies to ensure that the shiny, new toys were delivered to local Missouri children in time for Christmas.

Governor Nixon joins Socket to Break Ground on Rural Fiber Project

Socket and construction workers break ground with Mo Governor Jay Nixon.Socket held a ceremony Wednesday, October 19, to celebrate the groundbreaking of its fiber-to-the-home network in rural Boone and Callway Counties.

The event was held at the Millersburg Christian Church, the site of one of Socket's huts to house equipment for the new network.

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon praised the project and other efforts to expand broadband throughout Missouri.

"Through our state and local partnership, area schools, courthouses, hospitals, public safety agencies and libraries across the state soon will be able to provide faster, more reliable Internet service," Governor Nixon said. "Students in the biggest cities to the smallest towns will have access to the same next-generation learning tools. Missouri businesses, whether at the forefront of innovation or in a storefront on Main Street, will be able to grow, succeed and prosper. Missouri broadband is a step in the right direction, and together, we're moving forward."

Construction crews have already begun boring holes for conduit piping that will house the fiber-optic cable. The first customers should be activated before the end of the year

Jefferson City Business Showcase a Success!

We had a great time at this week's Jefferson City Business Showcase.Fax to email is explained at Socket's booth at the Jefferson City, MO Business Showcase.

It gave us the chance to debut our brand new fax-to-email service!

Think about what your office may have looked like many years ago. All the outdated equipment you've probably ditched throughout the years--old phones, big computer monitors and so on.

Now you can ditch that clunky old fax machine for good, too! We showed our customers a quick demo of how simple and easy faxing can be.

(If you missed the show, that's OK. Learn all about fax-to-email here.)

The show was also a great opportunity for us to catch up with all our local business clients.

Socket reps answer questions from a visitor at the Jefferson City Business Showcase. Our team of account reps and engineers--many of them from Jefferson City themselves--answered questions about our services and what's new at Socket. It was great to see so many familiar faces!

Even though the show's over, the van's unpacked and our outdated office equipment is back in the basement, we're still here to answer your questions, seven-days-a-week.

Give us a call at 1-800-762-5383, or stop by our new Jefferson City office at 500 Broadway, Suite B.

Cleanin' Up Clark

Fast food trash...gum wrapper...beer can...SNAKE?!?!Socket employees clean up trash on Clark Lane in Columbia, MO

That's how it goes when you're picking up trash on Clark Lane in Columbia. You never know what you'll find!

Luckily, 9 brave Socketeers put their phobias aside and went out this week to clear the litter from our Adopt-a-Spot stretch of roadway.

23 bags of trash
to be exact.

They even found a possum in a bag!

At least our volunteers got to enjoy some lovely fall weather. And hopefully by our next cleanup, the critters will all be hibernating for the winter.

Ever Seen a Pink Tiger?

A young visitor gets a pink tiger painted on her face at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Mid-Missouri in Columbia.Well, neither had we, until the Susan G. Komen Mid-Missouri Race for the Cure this past weekend in Columbia.

But our masterful face painter made it happen, decorating racers' cheeks with pink ribbons, inspirational sayings and more. Pink was plentiful!

It was the least we could do as a sponsor of the event to support the thousands of Missouri runners and walkers who came out to raise money for breast cancer research, screening and education.

We were really inspired by all the participants, who showed up in the wee morning hours to take on the 5K race. Especially the survivors, who proved that by working together, we really can battle this terrible disease and win.Survivors at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Columbia

Congratulations to all the racers at this year's event!

Be sure to check out Socket's Facebook Page for more great photos from the event.

Race for the Cure in Columbia, MO

Socket is proud to be a sponsor at this weekend's Susan G. Komen Mid-Missouri Race for the Cure.

Thousands of runners and walkers will participate in this 5K race in Columbia to support breast cancer research, screening and education.

The race takes place Sunday, September 18 at 8:30 a.m. but come by early for health information, giveaways and contests from national and local sponsors.

We'll be hanging out in Sponsor Village - come have your face painted with pink ribbons or an inspirational phrase. We'll also have balloons for young visitors (with pretty pink ribbons).

When the start gun fires and the motorcycles take off, followed by a seemingly endless stream of racers...well, let's just say you'll be inspired and glad you got up early to support the event.
